Cutting edge technology: NUST acquires supercomputer

Its the fastest GPU based parallel computing system operating in any organisation or academic institution in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD:
The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) has inaugurated its fastest supercomputing facility at its Research Centre for Modelling and Simulation (RCMS). The supercomputer installed in NUST is the fastest GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) based parallel computing system operating in any organisation or academic institution in Pakistan. According to official sources, the supercomputers can perform parallel computations at a peak speed of 132 teraflops (132 Trillion Operations per second). It is equipped with multi-core processors and graphics co-processors with an inter-processor communication speed of 40 gbps. “This will give an impetus for collaborative research between universities and other research organisations within the country and abroad,” said Rector of NUST Engineer Muhammad Asghar.
