The chief minister on Saturday directed that a committee including the inspector general of Punjab Police and the home secretary be formed to appraise the law and order situation.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also announced that police officers of three districts showing a decrease in crime will be given cash prizes every month.
Three officers posted in the district with the lowest crime rate will get Rs500,000, Rs300,000 and Rs200,000. Three officials in the district with the second-best record will get Rs400,000, Rs200,000 and Rs150,000. Officials of the district in the third place will be awarded Rs300,000, Rs100,000 and Rs75,000. He left it up to the committee to decide which police officers or officials would get the cash prizes. Sharif warned the officials in districts with poor law and order of disciplinary action. The chief minister said the home secretary and the inspector general of Punjab Police to consider setting up a separate force for security at courts.
