After endless seasons of body-con dresses and leggings with zips in awkward places, catwalks for Autumn/Winter are now ablaze with leg -lengthening and bum-minimising trousers. With its hybrid and versatile appeal, they are at the forefront of every front- row fashionista’s conscience - taking them from day to night, seamlessly.

Designers’ secret to this trend being a hit was not just coming up with any old trouser, but coming up with a style guaranteed to make you look tall and statuesque. Images of Katherine Hepburn and Charlie’s Angels amongst other famous seventies pin-ups have been resurrected by Stella McCartney, Celine and others reared and raised in the 1979s.

The echo of this trend’s popularity has been replicated on the high street. Gap has designed a range of six “basic trousers” to compliment every body type, from the boy-shaped to pear-shaped.  Zara and French Connection offer their versions as well.

They are definitely this season’s fail-safe for both day and night, letting you glide into easy evening glamour.

Iman’s Do’s:

Invest in a good pair of evening trousers

Pair with skyscraper heels and a skinny belt

Pair them with a silky blouse (tucked in)

Crimson Lips

Iman’s Don’ts:

Wear with flats, unless you’re over 5’7
