LAHORE:

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) on Saturday began an internal assessment of its performance in three divisions of Punjab in order to prepare for the upcoming general elections.

Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune a high- level party meeting at the Raiwind residence in Lahore on Saturday, presided over by Nawaz Sharif, assessed the reports of three different surveys of Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal divisions, which termed the PML-N’s performance well below par to that of other areas of the province.

Some party members have been assigned the task of carrying out the recommendations drawn up so far. According to sources, the surveys were carried out to suggest ways of improving the party’s performances in the mentioned divisions. They were conducted by the Special Branch of the Punjab Police, private authorities and by the party itself to evaluate the performance of PML-N office bearers who were nominated for these divisions.

The mandate of the Special Branch of the Punjab Police was to check the performance of PML-N lawmakers in the divisions and to evaluate whether they were involved in the embezzlement of development funds. The survey conducted by the private authorities was to counter-check the report of the Special Branch and to keep a watch on differences, if any, among PML-N office bearers. The mandate of the party’s survey was to visit those constituencies where the PML-N has no representation and to search for a candidate to contest the elections for the constituencies on the PML-N’s ticket.

According to the facts, out of the 39 in the National Assembly allocated to Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and Sahiwal divisions, the party currently holds 9 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party holds 23 seats, the PML-Quaid has 6 seats and PML-Functional has one seat.

The party’s survey teams have also succeeded in negotiating with potential candidates from other political parties for the mentioned divisions. The sources added that Nawaz has given the go-ahead to the members of the committee who conducted the survey to finalise their negotiations with the candidates to join the PML-N.

Dying to win, searching winners not honest politicians. Shameful conduct of PMLN.
