Abbas to make European debut in Berlin

KARACHI:

National karate champion Saadi Abbas will become the first Pakistani to participate in a European league when he locks horns with his French competitor at the International Banzai Cup in Berlin today.

“It’s an honour to play in the Premier League with the best players,” Abbas told The Express Tribune. “I believe that my experience here will help me prepare for the World Championship in France in November.”

Pakistan Karate Federation (PKF) Secretary Shamim Hashmi, meanwhile, said that it was about time the country got representation in International leagues. He said that the PKF had entered Abbas into the league in order to prepare him for the World Championship. The PKF has also sent coach Khalid Noor to closely observe the league format which will help the federation introduce the same in Pakistan.
