Diyat payment: Interior ministry given till Oct 3

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday sought reply from the Interior Ministry for making no efforts for 22 years to facilitate diyat payment from the Saudi government for the death of a woman’s husband. Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan issued the order on a petition filed by Khalida Parveen, who said that her husband had died in Saudi Arabia in a traffic accident on August 21, 1990. She said that under the Saudi law, legal heirs of the deceased were paid diyat in accidental deaths in accidents. She said nine other people were also killed in the accident. She said their families had received the diyat payments but not her. She said she had filed an application with the Interior Ministry 22 years ago, but the officials had been delaying the matter. The court issued notice to the respondent ministry and sought a reply by October 3.
