PESHAWAR:

Maryam, an Afghan woman who eloped and came to Abbottabad, has denied the marriage claim of her alleged first husband, Abdul Rehman, during the pre-trial reconciliation proceedings at a family court on Friday.

The pre-trial reconciliation proceeding is held to help reach a compromise between a couple before a case goes to trial.

Maryam once again denied Abdul Rehman’s claim that she had been his wife since 2006. She claims Rehman is her deceased sisters husband. Her family also claims that she has two children with him. Maryam denies this claim as well.

Maryam married Haiwad, 23, also an Afghan, in Abbottabad in May. Both were present during the proceedings.

The court adjourned the case for September 17, requesting Rehman to produce evidence to prove his marriage to Maryam.

Rehman’s counsel Aijaz Sabi alleged that they have enough evidence to convince the court and it will be presented in the next hearing.
