HANGU/ JAMRUD: An improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Utman Khel, Orakzai Agency injured three people on Friday, including the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief in the area.

Assistant Political Agent (APA) Lower Orakzai Fazal Qadir told The Express Tribune that JI chief Raj Muhammad offered Friday prayers in Khyal Khan Village and was going to Kalaya with levy personnel Khalid Khan and a friend Akhtar Amin, when an IED exploded near his car, nearly two kilometers away from his house.

The rear part of the vehicle was completely destroyed in the explosion. Tribesmen rushed to the site and shifted the injured to the Kalaya Headquarters Hospital.  “Doctors told us that the injured are in a stable condition,” the APA said.

An official of the security forces, however, claimed that it was a remote-controlled blast.

Meanwhile, in another IED explosion around 10am in Jamrud subdivision of Khyber Agency, a bridge was partially damaged.

After the explosion, khasadar and paramilitary troops reached the area to collect evidence and launched a search operation, but no one has been arrested yet.

In another incident, an IED planted on a roadside exploded in Tehsil Haleemzai of Mohmand Agency.

An official of the political administration said that the Baizai peace militia leader, his son and levy official Ayaz were travelling in Chanda area of the tehsil when an IED exploded.

The official added that the political administration officer and levy personnel demolished the house of a tribesman identified as Bismillah under the Frontier Crimes Regulations. After the military operation in Fata, most banned outfits have changed their tactics and are using IEDs to target security forces. WITH ADDITIONAL REPORTING FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT IN SHABQADAR
