Land grabbing case: Court reserves verdict on who will investigate the case

The judgement reserved by a division bench of IHC to be announced in the coming week.

RAWALPINDI:
A division bench of the Islamabad High Court on Friday reserved its judgement as to who will conduct the investigation in the case against real estate tycoon Malik Riaz pertaining to acquiring 1,401 kanals of land near Rawat on fake and forged documents in 2009. The verdict will be announced in the coming week.

Speaking on the premises of the court after the hearing, Riaz’s counsel Aitzaz Ahsan said that the fraud was done by the property dealers and his client was implicated, as a result of which Bahria Town’s property was seized by the Anti-Corruption Establishment.

Ahsan said that eight months after the fraud was done, a case against Bahria Town was registered.

He said that there was no plaintiff and no prosecution in the case. “The Anti-Corruption Establishment accuses someone and then finds them not guilty; then again it accuses the same person. Their findings keep changing.”

Riaz’s counsel said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) should investigate the case.
