Monitoring polling booths: German diplomat asked for help

Transparency International Pakistan proposes installation of web cameras in the polling booth.

Press Release September 12, 2012

KARACHI: What if the election commission installed web cameras that could monitor in real time 65,000 polling booths in the upcoming elections? Transparency International Pakistan pitched this proposal to the German consul general, Dr Tilo Klinner, when he visited its office on Tuesday. TI asked him to consider helping acquire the estimated $50 million that could make this possible. Klinner met TI chairman Sohail Muzaffar, adviser Syed Adil Gilani and the executive director Saad Rashid. He was given a brief overview of the Public Procurement Monitoring programme, the Anti-Fraud Hotline Project, the Advocacy & Legal Aid Centre, where victims of corruption are provided free legal advice, and the research undertaken by TI Pakistan.
