Govt to help revive film industry
The Pakistani film industry may yet still be revived, or at least that is what the government is hoping for. The Federal Minister for National Regulation and Services, Firdous Ashiq Awan, said on Tuesday that the government will announce a new policy for promoting the film industry.
The government will also make a new ordinance to protect investors’ interest in the country, she said in the opening ceremony of Censor Awards here. She said that the country is rich in natural talent and dedicated workers.
Awan said that technology has changed film production and how things are done.
She said, “Indian films’ culture is different from our national culture.
We will promote our film industry keeping in view [our culture].”
Former minister for culture Pir Aftab Hussain Gilani concurred with Awan, saying that outdated equipment poses a hurdle in the revival of the film industry.
A large number of artists including Zaiba Bukhtyar and Sungeeta attended the event.

Pakistan needs to promote their own culture like Iran does. Good Movies can be made even with low budget (Iran does). If we try to compete Indian movies in their own style and genre we will get nowhere.Absolutely nowhere!!!

Thank God. The film industry is an important one in this day and age and definitely would provide loads of jobs as well. I hope the revival takes place without hindrance
Look- a movie Industry needs a lot of things to be in place. Its not about money, but the society as a whole. The society has to love arts, has to be tolerant and needs to appreciate culture.
India has not one, but dozens of movie Industries, out of which Hindi cinema industry is a tiny, but significant part.
They say lack of competition killed the industry in Pakistan, then how have, say, the Tamil industry grown(Taking that as a case study)? Most Tamilians cannot understand a word of Hindi. And, Hindi Industry poses no threat nor competes with Tamil Film Industry.
Its because the Tamil society loves Art- Music, Dance and Literature. The Film Industry is a gradual progression. Is it any surprise that the present CM of Tamil Nadu is a former Actress?
The gradual inference with respect to Pakistan is: The society in Pakistan has lost its charm and its love for Art after Pakistan. With the exodus of Hindus and the fun loving Sikhs, Lahore has gone from being a center of Film Activity to being a barren land of Art. Two-Nation theory made sure the vibrancy of Pakistan was lost to India.
Pakistan was created apparently because it was different from India and its had a different culture. That translated to it being as un-India as possible.
Its not because there is lack of talent in Pakistan, its the society has a whole; which in turn was shaped by events during and after Partition.
@Sam, Come on, why hide your true Pakistai muslim identity behind your name? Just for your knowledge, B for Bollywood comes from Bombay, not Lahore. Yes, lots of artists came from Pakistan to India in Partition. And you can see how they grew and I am very happy about it.
You can also see some who returned to Pakistan, what happend to them. Case in Point - Manto!

Bollywood started before partition.Many of the first and famous actors were muslims including Noor Jehan. Lahore was hub of Bollywood. India alone has no right to claim Bollywood. Pakistan should become equal partner to Bollywood and contribute.This is way forward.Call yourself Bollywood.
This is one Pakistani industry that I have no desire to see the tax money being spent on. The present state of this industry in terms of quality of product is not only questionable but also hopelessly irrelevent
