My lord: High court dismisses petition
Petitioner had argued that the practice was un-Islamic and a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution.
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition that had challenged the use of ‘My Lord’ in addressing superior court judges and bowing to them. Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh read out the short order. He had reserved verdict on September 6. The petition had been filed by AK Dogar who had contended that in 1980 a presidential order was promulgated under which the use of expressions, ‘My Lord’ and ‘Your Lordship’ was to be discontinued. He had argued that the practice was un-Islamic and a violation of Article 14 of the Constitution which laid down that the dignity of man be preserved as a fundamental right.
