‘Provocative speech’: Malik Ishaq granted bail

Ishaq is not expected to be released today as he is also currently accused in other cases.

LAHORE:
An additional district and sessions judge on Monday granted bail to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) co-founder Malik Ishaq on the submission of a surety bond worth Rs500,000.

Ishaq is not expected to be released today as the bail has not been submitted, and he is also currently accused in other cases.

He was arrested earlier this month and was sent on a 14-day judicial remand to Kot Lakhpat jail in a case registered against him for giving a “provocative speech to spread hatred” during a Khatm-e-Nabuwwat rally near Lahore.

The case had been registered under Article 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 3 of the Amplifier Act.

The bail plea of Ishaq said that the Article 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code does not apply in this case and it was a mala fide action on part of the police to register the case.
