Price hike: Transporters want taxes slashed

KARACHI: The Karachi Transport Action Committee (KTAC) has appealed to the government to slash all direct and indirect taxes on the transporters. The committee’s president, Mohammad Ashraf Banglori, on Sunday said there was an urgent need for marked reduction in the cost of fuel especially petrol and CNG. The government needs to seek other avenues for revenue generation and give relief to the transport sector that otherwise will have dire effects on the socio-economic condition of the masses. Any raise in fares holds a direct bearing on masses but the cost of living also increases with surges in the fuel costs, he said. Banglori was also unhappy over the two-day weekly closure of CNG stations. He demanded meaningful subsidies for the transport sector, which, according to him was a significant source of employment in the country, providing livelihood to millions of people.
