Speaking to the media in Sukkur, the minister said it was all hype created by some, which was being followed by others, adding that the texts of the ordinance would soon be public.
“Read the details [of the ordinance], it is the same commissionary set-up and the same deputy commissioner,” said Shah.
Further dispelling rumours, he said: “They say police has been given to the metropolitan, but there is no such system,” adding that even the revenue department had not been handed over to the metropolitan corporations.
When questioned about talks with the irked Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leadership, Shah said that reconciliatory politics being a focus of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), bills, amendments and all acts were passed unanimously and after deliberation with the opposition.
He said that the bill would be discussed among the PML-N membership, adding that it was a very important one.
On the way nationalists were reacting and threatening of strikes, Shah said: “It is their right; we give them the right to shut doors, shops and routes.”
“Nationalists would participate in elections if the people trusted them so much,” he said, adding, “If 1,000 people come out and block roads, people won’t come out of their houses out of fear, throw four hand grenades, people won’t leave their homes.”
Shah said that if the nationalists were actually up to it, they should face the PPP in elections as that was where the actual message resides.
The ordinance, newly passed and more recently challenged in the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry by a member of the City Alliance, has since its inception been the cause of a lot of disdain from the local governance.

How can everybody become an expert on the matter without reading the contents of the bill? Typical of us Pakistanis. Now this is sad!
@ Sindhi PAkistani, you need to grow up, and stop crying, seats in Karachi are open to every one on Open Merit, So if you are eligible student then get admission on open merit. We dont have any reserved seats for Karachiites why should we have ones for students of other cities be it larkana , Mirpurkhas, Lahore or Peshawar.
This SPLG is a gift of PPP to MQM and it is a creation of state within state. MQM was getting better image in Sindh some years back but due to policies mentioned, they are completely exposed now in Sindh. (i) Reducing the number of seats of Rural Sindh in Karachi based universities (ii) Division of Hyd (iii) Merger of Karachi districts and poor development in Non-Urdu speaking areas (iv) In support of LG system in Sindh which grabs the right of Sindhis over their own cities and resources (v) Changing name of historical medical college from "Sindh" Medical college to Jinnah Medical college. etc
If MQM really wants to win hearts of fellow Sindhis, they cant win it with mere words but with genuine and sincere actions are needed to win the confidence of Sindhis. But by supporting Anti-Sindhi SPLG systems, they are attempting to widen the gulf between Urban and rural Sindh, which is not good omen for unity.
Wake up Sindh and Wake up Pakistan! PPP-MQM are cunning and cruel, they will use all schemes and plans to defeat u in order to get their vested interests. They are bent to divide people and create disharmony in society. All permanent settlers (Urdu/Pushtoon/Punjabi/etc) of Sindh should also come forward to stand by Sindhis to foil PPP-MQM's nefarious plans against Sindh. United we stand! Long live Sindh and Long Live Pakistan.
What exactly is the format for local government in Sind.
Are our popular parties afraid of Mayors that they want to bring the Commissioner and Deputy back.
That would be sad.
Sad day for Pakistan. @asad you are confused by smoke and mirrors. Pakistan guaranteed to get poorer thanks to the the attitude of govt towards local government. Local government is an economic tool. But colonial mentality of Pakistanis keeps them unable to face reality. Pakistan is most urban country in South Asia. There is growing rural failure due to mismanagement of water. This means Sindhis escaping interior will get to suffer under urban system. Think long term. No control over revenues means NO incentive to grow the economy -plain and simple. More slums-as control of porvinces over time has only grown the slums. More urban dystopia to come. This is the opposite of China and why Pakistan so much poorer than China.
We should be driven by love not hate as I see in some comments here. We should be driven by what is good for the people not exactly what is good for the politiicians or the landed class. We should be driven by sense and logic not insane ideas driven by hatred. Give love take love.
PPP is going back to 1971 politics of dividing and destroying Pakistan .
They tried and failed with South Punjab . Now they are set to create Jinnahpur from Sindh .
PPP doesn't understand the concept of a federation or a federating unit; all it understands is ethnic politics .
PPP is making blunder after a blunder. Zardari thinks by purchasing loyality of around 50 families in Sindh, whole Sindh is in his pocket. He is forgetting the power of people and their sense of political revenge ! He is making sure his son always remians a non-starter !
It looks like a classic move to test the waters. If found to hot, the PPP comes out relatively unhurt but the MQM's credibility gets a drubbing.
