Seeking Redress: Topper in pre-medical group accepts prize after protest

Candidate protested alleging police had been harassing his family with a false FIR against him and his father.

GUJRANWALA: The prize distribution ceremony in Gujranwala was delayed by about an hour as the first position-holder in the pre-medical group refused to recieve his medal and cash prize.

Addressing Education Minsiter Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman, Aslam Mahmood Lak of Government College Gujranwala complained about harassment by Aulakh police and said that he was arrested and detained at the police station for four hours without warrants and his family members insulted by some officials following a raid at his house about a month ago.  He alleged that Aulakh police had been harassing his family in a false FIR against his him and his father.

The candidate ended his protest and received the medal and cash prize on Education Minister Rahman’s assurance that action would be taken against officials who mistreated him.

The Gujranwala regional police officer later ordered an inquiry into the matter.
