Nato supply: USAID to help repair damaged highways, NA told

Rehabilitation of NHA's road network is estimated to cost $1463.66 million.

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir apprised the National Assembly on Thursday that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has agreed to help repair the damaged caused by Nato containers plying on the National Highway road network.

In a written reply to the NA, the minister said that the road from Peshawar to Torkham (N5) and Quetta to Chaman (N 25) would be rehabilitated. He added that negotiations with USAID are continuing in this regard.

The rehabilitation cost of National Highway Authority's road network was estimated to be $1463.66 million, Dr Alamgir wrote.

Replying to another question, the minister outlined progress on other road networks: 65 per cent work on the 193 km long Gwadar-Turbat-Hoshab road has been completed, 73 per cent work completed on the 148 km long Khuzdar-Wangu Hills-Ratodero road, 23 per cent work completed on the 58 km long Faisalabad-Gojra road and five per cent work on the 57 km Khanewal-Multan road link.
