A heavy contingent of law enforcers, including West District DIG Akram Naeem Bharoka, reached the area and shifted the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. They were later released after being treated. The bomb disposal squad also reached the house and examined the explosive. Officials later concluded that the device was homemade and contained pellets.
There were conflicting reports about how the grenade came to be in the house. Police officials say that they are still trying to figure out if the grenade was already present inside the house and unexpectedly went off, or if someone threw it from the outside. However, the family claims that their neighbours hurled the device inside their home. The area is predominantly Christian.
DSP Rustam Nawaz said that the father of the injured, Yousuf Masih, was out for work when the incident took place.
Global Human Rights Alliance chairman Jacqueline Sultan, minority MPA Saleem Khursheed Khokhar visited the area and consoled the family. They also declared the incident "an act of terrorism".
Khokhar appealed to Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah to increase security at Christian localities and to arrest the culprits behind the incident. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
