The Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had given doctors in Balochistan a 24-hours deadline for resumption of their duties at OPDs and had directed the provincial government to take departmental action against doctors if they do not cease to protest.
Earlier, Doctor Shams-ud-Din and Doctor Asharaf Achakzai, representatives of PMA Balochistan chapter, had appeared before a three-member bench headed by the chief justice at the Supreme Court's Quetta Registry.
They had apprised the court that the aim of their strike was to alert the administration regarding their security reservations. The court directed Home Secretary Balochistan Nasebullah Bazai and Secretary Health Asmatullah Kakar to take all possible measures for the security of doctors and also ordered them to hold a meeting to discuss other issues faced by the doctors' community.
