The government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) will float the required tenders for construction of Hazara Expressway in the upcoming two months, K-P Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain said during the K-P provincial assembly session on Tuesday.
Hussain said that Rs1.4 billion have been spent to buy land required for the construction of the 22km expressway, adding that work on the remaining portion of the road will resume once Rs400 million are paid to land owners.
The issue was taken up after a member of the provincial assembly, Javed Abassi, expressed concern over “undue” delay in construction of Hazara Expressway, which will connect Mansehra, Kohistan, Batagram, Shangla and Abbottabad districts and also provide route to Gilgit-Baltistan.
The assembly session, however, was adjured by Speaker Kiramatullah Khan till September 7 due to absence of members at the assembly. The speaker asked for ringing the bells of the house for two minutes to apprise members to attend proceedings; however, the still attendance remained slim. Only 23 members attended the assembly, whose quorum requirement stands at a minimum of 31 members.
MPAs Qalandur Lodhi and Qazi Asad want to be part of Hazara district, instead of the proposed Tanawal district. Hussain responded that Tanawal district will be made as promised “but not at the cost of those unwilling to become part of it”.
