According to the PTI report, China may convert the port into an oil pipeline hub to augment its energy supplies from the Gulf.
The report quoted China Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei as saying, “China and Pakistan are neighbours of traditional friendship. Over the years, China and Pakistan have engaged in wide-ranging cooperation in all fields including infrastructure construction with a view to helping Pakistan improve people’s well-being and promote social and economic development.”
Earlier, Minister of Ports and Shipping Babar Ghauri said in an interview that Pakistan had reached an agreement with PSA where they have decided to leave the port and discussions on a possible Chinese investor were underway.
Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is also due to visit China to attend the World Economic Forum 2012 in September. During the visit, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabo is expected to hold talks with Ashraf, the report stated.
Gwadar, built with a loan from China, is close to the Pakistan-Iran border and the Strait of Hormuz, through which much of the Gulf’s oil exports are carried by ship to international markets.

This is GOOD NEWS for Pakistan,China,Iran,Middle East & even Asia in the long run. I'm disappointed by the attitude of our Indian friends. I don't know why they are so annoyed. If it's good for the region it's good for India too, don't they realize that? It's about time Asian Countries ignore their differences & work together. Look at the E.U. (European Union) the Germans & French were enemies in World War 1 & 2. Even now they don't like each other much. The Germans hate French cars & the French hate German food. But they realize they have to work together for the greater good of both. We on the other hand were like brothers, we share the same language, the same food & even the same music. Why can't we cooperate with each other like we used to. Haven't we learned a lesson after 3 Wars. If we keep on fighting each other & destabilizing the region only our enemies will benefit. That's hardly intelligent behavior. We should work together for Peace,Prosperity & to defend the subcontinent from it's REAL ENEMIES.
I have read comments, very sad no one understood the issue. It's not the issue of sovereignty , it's just operational contract. The Dibai port company won many contracts in North Smerica and Europe. Prior to Chinese company, a Singapore company was operating the port. The sovereign remains with Pakistan. Many operations at Indian airports are being performed by non Indian firms. Pl take it in right perspective
So why do you guys call us Hindustani or Bharat even while communicating in English, why not India. Just curious. (Although I personally do not mind it, actually it is a matter of great pride if you call us by our proper cultural name than an Englush one)
@Mosley @LuvPak! @Hasan: A thousand recommends! I can smell troll BARBQ...
@casim: even with your 800 million poverty statistic, India's HDI is better than pakistan. that means you are insulting yourself indirectly.
@ashok: I can predict the next Indian and U.S move against China but I can't tell you. To give you an idea: Pakistan will be in the center of next Global Crises due to the fast-approaching Global Energy Resource Supply Route frenzy. Hopefully(no other option) Pakistan in next couple decades enter into maturity or social adulthood to be able to handle the heavy responsibility coming it's way. If not, Pak definitely will not able to get Anything from the transactions done over it's soil. Not just that, it will be swarmed by foreign controlled Powerful land mafias, Politicians-supported Heavy Weight thug-cum-brokers, Variety of Religious centers the size & wealth of small Sheikdoms who will support ruthless violence against the enemies of their wealthy "pious" clients. In short the Land will not only become a sore on the face of humanity it will become a magnet for it's kind. This sore then start releasing contagious disease virus to neighbors near and far. It's definitely not in anyone's favor to see Pakistan Fail. No rich & famous businessman want to live in crime-filled neighborhood. The dilemma is "you cant choose your neighbors". The psychological fact is: If you keep telling a family member "you are a failure" he will be one day, and nobody but the rich & famous brother will one day pay the heaviest price for the failures he helped his brother into.
Question of the day : Is it means that in future we would need Chinese visa to visit Gawadar?? Please think on it..
"Ghulami" has become second nature to Pakistan. Why not let China takeover the entire country?
@Awans:
The comments given by “Fed up Indian ” is a clear incitement of hatred based on ethnicity to destabilize Pakistan. We should officially complain to PEMRA aginst the Attitude of ET for approving such comments.
If you know how to complain post it here, we should all complain to PEMRA about the hate mongering being promoted by ET.
Building a port in Gwadar : $1.5 billion. Building an oil pipeline to Gwadar : $ 4 billion. Getting the trolls all worked up : Priceless! :p
@Casim... Dont lecture us, fix your country. We know where we are and our shortcomings. We dont claim to be perfect as you think.
Pakistanis have a long way to go before they even think of lecturing India on any issue.
We are not jealous or hoppin crazy as so many Pakistanis claim. I mean if you guys are happy about it then great, good on you after all its your country. Freind or enemy, it does not matter, it says a lot what can a country do on its own.
Ironical, but i think it should be Pakistanis who should be more mad at this decision but seem pretty happy.
Wow! What a sense of relief. When the Chinese come to Gwadar, Pakistan will see a new dawn: economic prosperity, universal literacy, end of terrorism, joy, happiness and wealth everywhere, the US and the pesky Indians put in their place etc. etc. During the Sino-Soviet rift, the Albanians were firmly on the side of the Chinese and once welcomed a visiting Chinese delegation with the slogan "We and the Chinese are 8oo million strong"!
This is much the best news and China is far better and the most credible, trustworthy and time-tested friend of Pakistan than USA under any circumstances.Very many many congratulations to you China on your this greatest ever achievement and please get Pakistan rid of US' monopoly in most of the sectors to obtain real sovereignty and self-reliance in economic and agriculture sector.
This is much the best and happiest news because China is far better and the most credible, trustworthy and time-tested friend of Pakistan under any circumstances than USA...... Very many many congratulations to you China on this achievement. Please China get Pakistan rid of US' monopoly in every sector........
I wonder how long before our "fair" Chief Justice steps in!!!
Jealousy is literally dripping from indians in this topic. Dr Priyanka seems to be quite upset with this development. She perhaps is not upset with developments in india which is declared as the most dangerous country for woman. capital Delhi at night is no go area for women.
@Kallu Mama:
I'll be your friend if you'll be mine :-)
@Dr Priyanka: And I quote you... "...When the Americans wanted to establish a military base in Diego Garcia in the Indian ocean India objected, but look at you! Sick!"
The poster of this gem can hardly be the judge of someone else's upbringing.
Umm.There.
Notwithstanding, India gave Pakistan $5 Million and not $25 Million as you quoted. Get your facts right before you post. See how rage eats up? Now you and I know. Better. And yes, we thanked India and every other country that helped. Just as India thanked us for our humble help in the MV Suez sailors bailout. But the question remains: What is it with China being in Pakistan (or Balochistan even) that makes Indians go hoppin' crazy? And have you solved all your unemployment issues that the matter of Baloch benefit interests you?
Gwadar Port to China Karakorram Highway to China Daimer Basha Dam to China I have a simple question. Can't Pakistan and Pakistanis undertake such projects themselves as I refuse to believe that there is a shortage of talent, experience or manpower in Pakistan.
Pakistan has committed a very big mistake. China is a friend of no one because friendship can only exist between two equal states. its not your gadar port any more, now its a part of china and will never be returned. It would have been great if Pakistan leaders would have operated with little common sense and operated the Port by themselves with technical help from Chinese, instead they have handed a piece of Pakistan to a nation who don't care for ay thing. Chinese government just thinks about increasing its trade, so in reality it has better relations with America and India than Pakistan. Merely providing military equipments never make Chinese Pakistan ally. They will use Pakistan as long as it serves them. If Chinese would have been well wisher of Pakistan , they would have supported Pakistan in 1971 war and Kargil war. Rather then they just watched Pakistan disintegrating and did nothing.
@Satnam Singh Manak, General Secretary Hind-Pak Dosti Manch:
Your logic won't work on people not aware of the terms like "Economic Interdependence" , "Strategic location"& "Peaceful coexistence" and sorry to say the envy in their heart (As is visible from the comments) won't let them learn a thing about it.Suffice it to say,"Peace hath higher tests of manhood, than battle ever knew."
China is too much better then USA..
But why our govt. is not take care of our port.. we have everything then why we are giving this to others.
Great News. Now Pakistan must hand over karachi to the chinese too.Nothing new in this. so many airbases are with UAE princes. Saudis also hold huge tracts of agricultural Land. Besides, Chinese have given lots of loans for Developing the port. They are just taking over the collateral assets to recover the same. Internationally, Banks do same thing when loans are not repaid or defaulted.
@Fed Up Indian: expain how? effect Punjabi and not Balochi
I have read all the comments on this news item given by Indian and Pakistani readers. It is good that The Express Tribune is providing us an opportunity to share our views with each other. At the same time, it is our responsibility as a citizen of 21st century that we should not create hatred against each other, because our future is in cooperation not in confrontation. If Pakistan and China have a good relationship, it is good for the people of both the countries. If something is wrong in their relationship, the people of Pakistan and China should watch it. We try that Pakistan and India should develop friendship as China and Pakistan. It is also good that China-India relations are improving day-by-day. One-day India-Pakistan relations will also improve very much. We all should play good role for this noble cause, only then this region will be able to progress.
@SURB: I appreciate your imagination.Anyways I was in the middle -east for 13 yrs and lived in Saudi Arabia for 10 yrs and I think I know what is the ground reality. King Abdullah called India his 'second home'on his historical visit to India. What did he say about yours when he visited your country?
How many days in takes to ship good from Karachi port to USA?
Appreciate any feedbak
regards
I think its a good move, considering the fact that China has invested heavily there and they are keen to use the port for their exports especially to middle east.
This should bring progress and stability to the region. It will also provide corridor to the land locked central Asian countries.
I wonder why Indians are so distressed at this progress ! go get a life !
Howmany days in sea in takes to ship goods from Karachi to USA? appreciate any feedbak.
tahnks
John
@Dr Priyanka:
Everyone likes good business that will be a win-win.Pakistan is having brotherly relations with KSA& rejection is not an option.Anyway, it's just an idea.cheers!
@Scissors: we are not throwing a fit.Your language shows your upbringing. The port happens to be in Balochistan, correct me if I am wrong and in no way are the locals going to benefit. We are feeling bad because remember when your country was ravaged by floods we donated 25 million rupees oops dollars and you and I know how much you got from others.
@amir omani: Why are we not feeling it now? We are still warmer than China. Infact we feel more confident about China and it's relationship with us in the light of present factors and projected future.
When is farewell party to US?
a very sad state of affairs, it is tragic that elite army generals of pakistan are grabbing baloch resources with the help of undemocratic-chinese government.Gawadar should be in the control of local poor balochs and should be utilized for the benefits of local balochs not for the vested interests of few pakitani army generals and china.
I think its a good move by Pakistan to give the port of Gwadar to China
In any case, Pakistan has no capability to do anything on its own
Wonderful news. China should also build its Navy Operations base here as well. When we can lease our air bases to the no 1 killer nation US and allow drones to kill our own people then why not china who has never hurt Pakistan's cause. We need a major policy shift and that's why Kiyani is also visiting russia. Let the liberal fascists whine as they always have. This is good news for Nationalists in Pakistan. Future is china and the world knows it. Who is stopping us to transit chinese exports and oil imports from Pakistan to the entire world.
It's funny how pakistani's are proud of handing over their country's port to another country, on the other hand the chinese are as interested in baluchistan as india is. At the end of the day it will be the countries like america, india, china and russia which will be having a say on baluchistan and pakistan will be mute spectator in this. The division of pakistan has just begun.
@Dr Priyanka: "what are you getting so excited about? the chinese are there to look after their own interests, not to help Pakistan out."
So even if it's for China's benefit and not Pakistan's, why are the Indians throwing a fit about it?
Pakistanis are proud that another country is running their ports!! Amazing
@vivek: look at China! they were on a two digit growth rate for sometime & still they are long way from providing good standard of living to its people! now look at India, who will surpass China in terms of POPULATION, how are you going to give basic necessities to 1.5 billion in the year 2050? lol 6% growth is nothing, try researching the facts & see how much growth rate India needs to provide for such a huge population :) Pakistan will be at 227 million by 2050, we have work to do as well, at least I don't claim everything is perfect unlike you Indians who come here interfere in our matter & incite hatred :)
Great News ........ A very warm welcome to our long live friend
sad this will crush the domestic market for Pakistani small and medium business future and led to future flooding of cheaper cost Chinese goods and hurt Pakistanis economy as it has happened in south america and Caribbean where Chinese goods were first welcomed and now people there have started boycotting Chinese goods cause it thrashed their domestic business.
when will Pakistan Take operation control of their own ports instead of playing second fiddle to either america or china?
@abdul karim KHAN: what are you getting so excited about? the chinese are there to look after their own interests, not to help Pakistan out.
@SURB: The saudis will not allow that.
@U: Here it won't be something that explicit. The chinese are doing it for their own benefit.
good decision. this will help both parts which includes everyone who wants to stand for the support.
@Saba Hameed: proud of you my child...
Corrected Headlines: "China allegedly confirms takeover of Gwadar port: Report" +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ :)
Better late than never. Remaining all our lives in indecision and animated suspension that resulted in the present state of affairs, this is a very hard-hitting decision and will take the wind out of many sails. Salams to Pak-China dosti.
We do not need boots in Pakistan (except for the Chinese).
ParvezM: "Do you know how long it takes to load and offload for a ship at Karachi port?" Here is what I wrote to ET editorial two days ago. ET, Gwader port has never been feasble for commerce because of its distance from main population That means any ship instead of harbouring at karachi, the first seaport enroute pakistan, should further travel almost six hundred kilometers for offloading at gwader port .And from gwader port, trucks traveling another seven hundred kilometers back to main population. Not workable because of transport charges. 2 Investments in gwader means first raw material transportation to gwader and then back, involves over forteen hundred kilometers. No chance at all again extra transport charges There is no raw material around Gwader in bulk supply such as oil gas ,minerals no water for industrie.Gwader port was infact develope for china to make sure it’s unintrupted oil supply from iran Since it was sensitive project to divert attentention of other powers it was projected as a new hub of commerce etc.By virtu of that compaigne some oppurtunists made their fate. Pakistan is happy with some kind of secret funds at the name of port charges and that’s all for the time being. Regards.
@Casim Your comment crossed all levels of jealousy and ignorance. If you are so big researcher than kindly read that the growth of India is 5.5% in just one quarter which has improved from last one. Also yearly growth was 6.7% last year and this year also it will go to 6.6% (Predicted by WB and other agencies) which is still a robust growth considering size of Indian economy. The worst for India has been over and growth is slowly improving. Also for the Two digit growth comment by our government shows how we think about our goals and future development. If growh is 7-8% there would be no problems. Now look at your country.Where does it stand? Come out of fools paradise.
Seems a stretch to take that general quote and twist it into a "tacit confirmation"
@Raw is War
We can understand your Pain?
When will China take over Pakistan? Is there a schedule?
No, China is interested in only assets, if there is anything left in Pakistan.
@Hedgefunder: There are Only One thing you should remember Hindu Boy, That China is a Friend and India is an enemy. Let's see if you have guts to change that perception. What your Hindu terrorists Mobs did with Migrating Muslims In 1947 , People still remember your Govt.'s terrorist Instance and then Your Hindu state terrorism in 1971 and then in Balochistan and in Sri Lanka with Tamil tigers. This is your involvement in International State Sponsored Hindu Terrorism. Internally, We can start anywhere you want. Whether it is Hindu regimes' Start of Kashmiri Massacre in 1980's or Sikh Genocide in 1984 , Or Demolishing of Babri Mosque Led By the Hindu State Sponsored Terrorist L.K.Advani, or it's State sponsored Hindu Genocide of 2000 Muslims in Gujarat, or Massacre of Christians in South India. They are all clear example of Hindu Terrorist Mindset internally and externally. Therefore, before blaming others look at your own terrorist Mindset. No one wants to stay with such a terrorist nation. Before opening your mouth, Do have a look at your deeds.
One day China will confirm takeover of Pakistan. :-)
Is there a Behria Town in Gawadar yet ?
What happened to the 'sovereignty' brohaha that Pakistani government was promoting only a few months ago? I guess it is a question of Mulah over Mullah!
@Fed Up Indian: Look Look someone's back is burning. Btw ET why are you qouting Press TRUST OF INDIA.?
I felt something was burning then I clicked on this news and found out it was the indian trolls lol
LOL I read these kinds of articles just to see Hindustanis wetting themselves.
Billions of dollars spent flooding poor Afghanistan with your third-rate doctors and engineers - and with the stroke of a pen Islamabad has achieved a strategic advantage in the region. Of course, if you Hindustanis have a problem with it, you should make your complaints known to Beijing - but after 1962, for some reason the Chinese have never had any problems dealing with you guys!
Good move by Pakistan - another act of unrivalled generosity from China.
Hasan
They are taking OPERATIONAL CONTROL.
Just to give some ignorant people an idea how ports operate, DP World is a company employs more than 30,000 people, operate more than 60 ports across six continents including many in China and is headquartered in Dubai, UAE.That does not mean China has surrendered its sovereignty to Dubai.
Pakistan is no longer an Islamic republic but is officially now "Peoples Republic of Pakistan".
@sam: Iran has not given the Chabahar port to Indians. We just helped build it, whilst you are handing over bit by bit of your country including illegally occupied Kashmir to China. Iran and India have business interests and of course an old friendship and the benefit will be mutual, but in your case we know the benefit will be one way. Peanuts and crumbs will be thrown your way if at all any!
I hope those in Power dont fill their pockets with this deal - i hope ordinary pakistanis benefit
The share holders of PAK logistic cell will be overnight millionaires if the deal goes through.
Congratulation! Next step China and Pakistan must build a road bridge connecting Gawadar with Saudi Arabia....That will be great for people and trade between the two regions.Must complete that in the next few decades(till i'm alive)....many of us like me will like to go to Hajj by a road over the Arabian sea.
How can someone give a part of their motherland to a foreign country? You gave a part of Kashmir also? And it makes me sick to read that you are feeling proud about it. What kind of mentality is that? When the Americans wanted to establish a military base in Diego Garcia in the Indian ocean India objected, but look at you! Sick!
I think it is a very good news for India, China, USA and also Pakistan. The encirclement of Pakistan is not complete. India on the East & West, China on the North and South, USA+NATO+India on the West. Importantly, USA and China sitting within Pakistan. Terrorism from Pakistan is out for ever as China will protect its investment and will not allow the terrorists even to exist in Pakistan, let alone operating from Pakistan. I welcome this news as it brings peace to the region and all countries shall prosper. India has nothing to loose. After all it is Pakistan's territory. I also admire the forward thinking of Pakistan. They introduced Chinese language as compulsory studies from grade 6 onwards over one year ago.
In future when this port will become a central hub for business then lot of jobs will be created and whole region of Pakistan will be benefited... Baluchistani People are first Pakistanis so if educated Balochs wana do job then they are welcome to do NO ONE is stopping them BUT remember kick out Kafirs from Balochistan who want to take over it and then wana rule over you...Balochs Bros do you like that Kafirs will rule on you. THINK... Indians its non of your business in Gawadar port. you go to Afghanistan and dig some mountains, may be you will get something from there.
China will never be Pakistan's enemy. India on the other hand can never be Pakistan's friend.
@Sir King Kong Bunty: That's not actually a bad idea.
In other words, this news to the world(to a neutral person) means Pakistan is low on self-confidence and lacks abilities to self-manage. Therefore, a sense of pride as expressed by a few in their comments is like showing pride in slavery under British-Raj, than the hard-earned freedom of the sub-continent. A slap across the face of the freedom-fighters.
Think for a minute by taking a non India-centric approach; this news is a shame.
@Oracle (India): plss stop it here .. i know u r very sad and jealous of us plsss i can smell u r jealous of us..
Hong Kong model.......whats wrong with that....they build it, develop it and even partially populate it but it will have links to the local population and who knows it can lead to some factories.....yes they will be sweat shops, its better than no shops that pakistan has right now.
don't compare what pakistan COULD be to it is right now. we are a nation that needs donations and help from the powerful nations to run our country. Gawadar might be a good way to show the world that pakistan is open for business.
as I've said before - there is no limit to this "chamcha" style of diplomacy - as long as Pakistanis tell themselves they are "un-India"
One question I want to ask my Indian friends sitting in India. Why are my best mates Indian in UK and why do we always stick together in foreign countries while back home we are always fighting?
Looks like the main reason Pakistanis are happy as the Chinese port bothers the Indians. This is exactly the ground on which China will eventually take over Pakistan. Sure, the Chinese are coming into India's neighborhood, but if India has survived with Pakistan and China as its neighbors, how does it matter? Then, the Chinese neighboring countries like Vietnam are friends with India.
It's a game everyone is playing, but not by losing control over its land like Pakistan in Kashmir, in the sky (drones), and now at Gwadar.
I say let them and I promise you they will help us much more than the Americans ever will. During my time in UK I have met many Chinese people and whenever I tell them I am from Pakistan they give me more respect than they give to others people from different countries and I always see a smile on their face when I tell them that I am your Pakistani brother. :) PAK-CHINA friendship zindabad.
The comments given by "Fed up Indian " is a clear incitement of hatred based on ethnicity to destabilize Pakistan. We should officially complain to PEMRA aginst the Attitude of ET for approving such comments.
@Fed Up Indian: It is shame that this naked anti-Pakistan propaganda line was supported by 61 idiots.
When the Chinese start coming inside Pakistan, they will come and come and come...
As it is the Chinese are fed up with the "One Child" policy.
Notice how Port Qasim in Karachi is off limits to the Chinese......as the future Mohajir Republic will lease Port Qasim to either the US or NATO.
Wonderful news!! Another feather in our 'visionary' ruling elite's cap! They want Chinese to be taught in Pakistani schools, adn they have handed Gwadur over to China, in return for a few million dollars and help in building Gwadur port. The one thing that never crosses the minds of our elite is to utilise local talent, local enterprise, local money to build Pakistan. They are behaving like puppies who as soon as they are born, start looking for a master! If not the USA< then China, or even the medieval Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or the Sheikhs of the UAE! Musharraf and Shaukat Aziz tried to hand over the management of the Gwadur port to the Singaporeans, though there was no dearth of managerial talent within the country. Zardari went a step further; he handed the port over to China! Did they build it for China, or do they want to act merely as rent seekers? They don’t even learn from \China itself, which has done almost everything that it has done after the revolution through its own effort! No nation that does not rely on its own people and its own resources has ever made real progress. Pakistan has everything it needs--talent, experience, even finances and other resources. What it lacks badly is leadership and the will to work hard.
@FU: Chinese government is not going to run the port, maybe you lack the knowledge of how things work in this world :) there are various port running authorities around the globe from different countries, the previous company running the Gawadar port was from Singapore! so why so much crying out at China & not on Singapore? secondly its none of your business, you better worry about your population & find ways to feed it in the future when it will reach 1.5 billion & become the most populated nation in the world.
Welcum chinese frnds , they shud bring along their navy as well with Mutual Defense Treaty thn we 'll take care of hypocrate evil indian state............
@Bala: China has given us more compared to other so called donor nations. In real terms China has done much more for us, the aid makes a country worthless whereas cooperation in different areas is going to make Pakistan self sufficient & strong. small eg chasma nuclear power plants build with the help of China. People think over it :)
@sabi: Do you know how long it takes to load and offload for a ship at Karachi port?
Indian trolls unleashed.
India was going to build an undersea pipeline from Gulf to Bombay. How is it coming along?
Indians are having fit of rage. The Chinese are coming. Chinese are coming. They are already in Sri Lanka, Bdesh, Nepal and other places. What are you going to do?
@Sir King Kong Bunty: Uh you sleeping? Chinese is gonna be taught in Government schools now.
Pakistanis seem to be deluded at all levels. Show me one country in the world where they surrender ports to a foreign country. Even the tiniest and weakest countries don't do that. Looks like Pakistanis are proud to be puppet of one or the other super power. Can't you people stand on your own feet. No matter how corrupt India may be we haven't stoop to this level. Even the puppet arab states who are backed by US, haven't stoop to this level. Chinese are known to be business minded people and they are sucking the natural resources of Africa with little or no benefit to local people and Pakistanis here think they somehow have the upper ground.
Don't you know guys, what is good for our China is good for Pakistan.
What? Our Deeper-Than-Teacup, Higher-Than-Hiccup Friend, is not even in the top 10 donor countries for Pakistan? Never mind, Pakistan will earn millions in Transit dollars.
My take on this is that its got nothing to do with Pakistan/China/ strategy blah, blah ............it's to do with making a buck and the small man will never know the inside story.
@Richard A. Clarke: firstly come up with real name :) secondly check out the projected UN report on population of different countries! India will surpass China in terms of population! I don't open my mouth without proper research nor I go into other countries news websites to interfere or incite hatred :)
Dear readers Gwader is a second defence of line for Pakistan navy and for China, a watchdog for it's oil supply line from Percian gulf Gwader can never replace Karachi port for any kind of commerce because of of it's far off location from rest of the country. All that gliter is not gold.It was never meant for business but for stratigic purposes.
Ever since this port was built with the borrowed monies and foreign know how and labour at times, it was an forgone conclusion, that the Chinese had achieved their objective of having their own warm water port ! Even thou they are building another one at present in Sri Lanka, however that's a very different situation to this ! Pakistan has simply complied them, to their request, as it has done with so many other things like Airbases to Arab Princes etc... Then when the public becomes aware, the blame games begin ! Nothing new here, business as usual for Pakistan ! So much for your self esteem, honour and lastly the very important Sovereignty !
@casim: You do not know when you are lying..
@ashok: 1.2 Billion hmmmm who has to worry about they future :) buddy worry about your 800 million poor which is 3 times the population of Pakistan & soon you guys will find yourself in trouble as your economy is shrinking, 5% growth will do nothing for you as you guys need double digit growth to provide somewhat standard of living for such a huge population! & India is going to become the most populated country in the future please check out UN reports :) for the rest of your talk its totally absurd come up with something other than hatred next time.
This is a positive move for both Pakistan and china.Oil producing countries in the gulf will also benefit.Gwadar is ideally located and can become an oil and gas hub for the region. All the best China ad Pakistan.
@sam: if iran give his port to india what india gonna do with it sale peanut.china has a highway from g-port to china so they can bring there good's e-z.what india gonna do withe the port ,they do not have road to iran and india for that thet need PAKISTAN,with out pakistan c-asia is inpossible.
My name is khan & i am a Chinese..
Genghis Khan Supreme Khan of the Mongols.. The title is Khan..& i think it suits the situation.
so much worry by my Indian friends at this news! lol its our port not yours that you come here to decide & spread hatred! you guys have so much obsession that you come in groups & comment on Pakistani news website to incite hatred nothing else! Gawadar is going to develop at fast pace from here onwards & its going to bring in lots of prosperity & opportunities to Baluchistan & Pakistan! Pak-China forever
@amir omani: have not learned from 1971...................1/2 country gone............Ha ha
Iran has given its Chabahar port to India so we can also give Gawadar port to China. After US there is no country on earth which can have influence in this region. Good for Pakistan
Gwadar will change this whole region.
This deal will bring no benefit to the Balochis. It will only serve to increase their alienation from a 'federation' that does not even bother to ask them before giving away one of their ports to a foreign power. The army - who made this decision - is under the illusion it understands the national interest.
Is the leadership of the baluch nation onboard? If the answer is no, then this just wont work.
what happened to Pakistani sovereignty ?
@amir omani: what about sikkim skirmish era
I think its time for pakistanis to learn how to eat food using chop stick ! It could be useful..Chinese love to sell chop stick to everyone. ;)))
Gud going.
Slowly Pakistan is becoming People's republic of China and India is becoming Islamic republic of India.
My My =) thats wonderful. Also bring in your navy China, you might be threatened =D bring in a full fleet of frigates
Good move. Pakistan has graet potential to be transactional economy.
@AnisAqeel: haha. you want china in your enemy status in this hurry?
This doesn't benefit the Baloch, it only benefits the Punjabis and the Chinese.
Why not give the whole administration of Pakistan to china. Welcome to Peoples Reublic of Pakistan now. Its shameful how the Pakistani elite have surrendered all the nations wealth to China.
Pakistan should give contract to eliminate terrorism also, if not to USA then let it be China.
Pakistan acting as a vassal? Who knew?
