Misuse of the blasphemy law

Letter September 04, 2012
We make our own assumptions about other religions based on the conduct of the people belonging to those religions.

KARACHI: This is with reference to Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi’s article “Misuse of the blasphemy law” (September 4). Why is it that we want the world to judge Islam not by the actions of Muslims but by what is written in the Quran, yet, we never read the Torah, the Bhagvad Geeta or the Bible before we start judging Jews, Hindus and Christians.

Isn’t this the height of hypocrisy? We make our own assumptions about other religions based on the conduct of the people belonging to those religions, yet we don’t want to afford the same opportunity to non-Muslims in judging us with the same yardstick. Can someone explain these double standards to me?
