A shutter-down strike is being observed in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan on the fourth death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Bugti.

The strike call was given by the Baloch Republican Party and Jamhoori Watan Party.

Balochistan National Front, Balochistan National Party and Baloch Student Organisation are also participating in the strike.

All major shopping centres in Quetta are closed, with contingents of police, Balochistan Constabulary, Frontier Core and Anti Terrorist Force deployed throughout the city.

A complete shutter-down strike is also being observed in other areas of the province such as Noshki, Dalbadin, Mastung, Qalat, Pisni and Khuzdar.

Talal Bugti, president of the Jamhoori Watan Party and son of the late Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, had earlier filed a petition against former president Pervez Musharraf in Akbar Bugti's murder case.

The concerned authorities were not registering an FIR against Bugti’s murder till the Balochistan High Court ordered them to do so in October 2009.

Talal had also pleaded that Interpol should be activated to bring Musharraf back to Pakistan and face the law.

Syed A. Mateen | 13 years ago | Reply Death of Nawab Akbar Bugti has created a political vaccume in Balochistan. Mr. Bugti once upon a time was part and parcel of many govenrments but became a political opponent of Musharraf's government. Balochistan should be taken into confidence and the young Baloch should be given priority in the Federal and Provincial Government jobs. On the other hand the mindset of tribal leaders could not take Balochistan out of their clutches. This is one of the reasons that Balochistan could not come up with the passage of time and still the province is far behind from rest of the three provinces of the country. While the courty is ruled by an elected democratic government, yet the old fashioned tribal leader's rule could not change the thinking of an ordinary Baloch. There is an urgent need to change the mindset of the young Balochis, otherwise generations will pass and nothing will be changed in Balochistan.
