One of upper Sindh’s leading political groups, the Mahar Group, which has been in political isolation for the last four years, has finally decided to join the Pakistan Peoples Party.
The group negotiated its terms and conditions with co-chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) President Asif Ali Zardari in Karachi Sunday evening.
The meeting, which continued for more than an hour, decided that the Mahar group would soon formally announce its induction in the PPP at a public gathering in Khan Garh Mahar, likely to be attended by President Zardari.
Talks between the two sides had been ongoing for almost a month. Ali Nawaz Khan aka Raja Mahar, Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar, Ali Muhammad Mahar, Sardar Alo Gohar Mahar, and Nasir Shah held the decisive meeting with the president on Sunday.
The group, which dominates Ghotki district and parts of other districts in upper Sindh, told President Zardari that they would contest elections from their respective constituencies where they already enjoy huge support; while, a joint candidate will be nominated with mutual consensus in other areas which do not come under their stronghold.
According to sources, the president accepted the Mahar group’s condition and directed the provincial party leadership to make all possible arrangements for the public gathering.
He also directed Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to ensure party discipline as the group had complained of a ‘propaganda’ launched against them during the past week.
The Mahar group was also constantly in touch with other political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the Functional League.
PPP’s district leadership and workers, however, are not in favour of the Mahar group joining the party, and had held several protests against the move.
President Zardari directed Ghotki’s leaders to avoid such a negative drive.

Good. At least in Sindh alliances are not made with TTP and Mullah Omar
@Muzaffar that assumes that people pay taxes
Hehehehehe
Zardari no matter how hard you try you cannot stop my leader Nawaz the lion stomach (or was it lion heart?)
and how much from our taxes was promised to them ??
PPP has proactively started the preparations for upcoming general election and are in strengthening their base with smaller like minded parties/groups.. the party if makes a pre poll alliance with centre or left leaning parties their vote bank is expected to increase. Decisions to creates a new province is also the right strategy to satisfy the just demand of Seriake people will add their vote bank. Probably PPP perceives the election earlier than the expected schedule.
Nothing can change in Sindh.
