KARACHI:

Interior Minister Rehman Malik has warned that terrorists wanted to make Karachi a “safe haven”.

Talking to journalists in Karachi on Saturday, he said on Saturday that his ministry had intelligence reports of militants sneaking into the metropolitan city in large numbers.

“Terrorists are planning to attack offices of political parties as well,” he added.

The minister asked security agencies in Karachi and other major cities to remain alert against possible terrorist attacks. According to him, intelligence reports suggested there could be around three or four terrorist attacks in coming days.

He appealed to citizens to exercise vigilance as well and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies promptly.

“I cannot tell you everything at this moment, but I assure you that we are tracing the whereabouts of these terrorists and will foil their nefarious designs,” he added.

Malik said he had directed the Federal Investigation Agency chief to launch a website where people could lodge complaints.

The minister appreciated the Punjab government for arresting Lashkar-e-Jhangvi leader Malik Ishaq.

The chief of the banned outfit was apprehended at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport upon his return from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah.

Malik sahib, with the statements that you invent and issue every day you are terrorising the nation more than the terrorists. Do your basic job and rid the nation of terror or keep quite and resign.
