New settlement: Protest put off till Monday

Some protesters said their landlords provide them with protection.

ISLAMABAD:

The Christians who fled Mehrabadia put off their protest until Monday after the CDA chairman assured them of an alternative site for settlement.

Some of the protesters told The Express Tribune that their landlords provide them with protection.

“[But] the problem is the perpetual sense of security that we no longer enjoy in Mehrabadia,” said Daniel Masih, who added he had not given up his house in the capital’s periphery since the blasphemy incident last month.

“My landlord warned the neighbours that he would shoot anyone who dared to threaten his tenants.”

However, this could not be considered a permanent security measure, added Daniel.

He stated that Farkhand Iqbal has promised to provide them land for three months before finding them a permanent place in the city. Later, Iqbal repeated his pledge to a private TV channel.
