Teacher torture case: Judge refuses to hear appeal

The judge said he had returned the appeal to the chief justice, asking him to place it before another bench

LAHORE: Justice Mehmood Maqbool Bajwa of the Lahore High Court on Friday refused to hear the government’s appeal seeking the cancelation of the bail granted to former MPA Aslam Madhiana. Madhiana is accused of beating an elderly schoolteacher and breaking his legs. The judge said he had already heard the case and returned the appeal to the chief justice, asking him to place it before another bench.The complainant, schoolteacher Nafees Ahmad, had accused Madhiana of beating him after he had objected against his “illegal activities.” The Supreme Court had also taken suo motu notice of the incident. An additional district and sessions judge on July 10 granted post-arrest bail to Aslam Madhiana.
