Contempt of court: Punjab secretaries served notices

RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued notices to secretary health and secretary education Punjab in a contempt of court petition filed by 150 schoolteachers facing departmental action for not taking part in polio eradication campaign and electoral duties. Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi of the LHC’s Rawalpindi bench directed the two secretaries, Rawalpindi district co-ordination officer (DCO), director general health Punjab, EDO health Rawalpindi and EDO education to submit their comments in a week. The district administration asked teachers to join the anti-polio campaign after the summer vacation in violation of court orders, the petitioners argued. The teachers have requested the court to direct the education and health authorities not to force them to perform duties other than the one they are paid for and start contempt  proceedings against them for violating court orders.
