Land encroachment: KWSB fears 26,000 acres up for grabs
KWSB’s managing director, Misbahudiin Farid, urged officials to take notice of the encroachment.
KARACHI:
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) fears that criminals are using forged documents to claim ownership of 26,000 acres of land between Dhabeji and Baldia town. It has asked the Sindh government to transfer the land to the water board, originally earmarked for building water facilities, said an official. This land belonged to the Karachi Development Authority till the creation of the water board in 1983. Later, an ordinance ordered that all water and sewerage schemes be transferred over to the water board. In a letter to the provincial authorities, the KWSB’s managing director, Misbahudiin Farid, urged officials to take notice of the encroachment. He also requested them to protect the land around the Hub pumping station against the land mafia.
