Hashim Amla became the fastest player to make 3,000 One-Day International (ODI) runs as he hit a career-best 150 to help South Africa post a competitive 287 for five in 50 overs against England in the second match in Southampton.
Amla, who has proven to be England’s nemesis during the tour, was playing just his 59th ODI to beat the record held by Viv Richards. This was Amla’s 10th ODI century.
The South Africa batsman added 89 for the first wicket which laid the platform for the competitive total.
England and South Africa are contesting a five-match ODI series with the first match having been abandoned due to rain.
