In memoriam: Tribute paid to Shamimur Rahman
Condolence meeting held in memory of senior journalist.

Zaffar Abbas, the Editor of Dawn, said that Rahman was eager to teach the next generation of journalists and took newcomers under his wing. “His credibility was unmatched. We rarely meet people like him in this field,” said Tahir Najmi.
Mazhar Abbas and Hasan Abbas of the Express news group said that Rahman was devoted to his profession. “He was a great human being and a thorough professional,” said Hasan Abbas. Amin Yousuf, the secretary general of the Pakistan Federation of Union of Journalists, said that a programme to highlight Rahman’s personal and professional life will be arranged at the Karachi Arts Council. Yousuf lauded Rahman for covering contemporary issues.
GM Jamali said that the KUJ will publish a compilation of Rahman’s work. He requested his family, friends and Dawn to provide Rahman’s works for the purpose.
Senior journalists, including Habib Khan Ghori, Saeed Sarbazi, Aftab Syed and Sarfaraz Ahmed also spoke at the condolence meeting.

The Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) organised a condolence meeting on Saturday at which Shamimur Rahman was deemed a role model for all aspiring journalists. “He was like a family member of the Pakistan Peoples Party, it is like we lost a good friend,” said Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. He announced that the government would construct a library at the KUJ soon.
