Job application: PPSC chairman issued notice

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday issued notice to the Punjab Public Service Commission chairman and others in a petition filed by a local government employee seeking an appointment as an information officer in BS-17. Justice Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan directed the respondents to file their replies within two weeks. He allowed them to go ahead with other appointments but directed them to keep a seat vacant until the court decides the matter. Petitioner Syed Muhammad Arif has submitted that being a local government employee, his service is regulated under The Punjab Local Council Service (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1983. He submitted that he had applied for the post of information officer but his application had been rejected on grounds that he was overage. He said he was eligible for exemption from the age limit according to a notification issued on April 1, 1976. He requested that directions be issued to consider his application.
