Express News quoted sources as saying that Ashraf’s account which were allegedly used in the Rental Power scam, were “discreetly” reactivated by NAB after he took charge as the prime minister.
The banks in which the prime minister had his accounts also informed him about the reactivation.
Ashraf was accused of receiving kickbacks in the rental power projects. He was also accused of buying property in London from money earned through corruption in various scams.
He is currently defending himself in the Supreme Court.
On March 30, the apex court had directed the National Accountability Bureau to proceed against those who were in the post of minister for water and power from 2006 till the next general elections. As a result, on April 20, NAB issued arrest warrants for 33 persons, including Ashraf.

@ Atique,,l, you seem to be living in ignorance ...... may be PP got votes from ignorant sympathetic voters but then why are all major political parties happy to work with ZARDARI ( PMLN ) until recently He was elected by provincial and national assemblies and by senate He is more visionary and more of a politician than BENAZER , He is now accepted the best politician Pakistan had and there is growing confidence in his ability and leadership The poor of Pakistan wil vote PPP back to power in next election
@HasBeen: PPP is not democratically elected.People voted out of ignorance and in sympathy for the assassination of Benazir. No one could have imagined that Zardari would become president and his sole purpose will be personal gain for himself and his ministers.
if PM makes money, everyone else will make money. shabash NAB
@Zia Pasha: Speak for yourself, I never voted for these corruption monkeys.
We elected these corrupt politicians and of course all the NAB/FIA guys are their servants. They'll do as ordered by their elected masters.
Everthing is "Halal" in the name of democracy
@HasBeen
Slight correction. PPP is a democratically elected thoroughly corrupt party finding progressive ways to liberally and progressively suck more & more money out of Pakistan.
Its time we should tax the bribes. Probably save us a few millions in national wealth.
@HasBeen: You are insane. Democracy is and never was the solution, it''s education and ending corruption. Standing behind criminals and who are buying property in London does not make me extremest. Justice is blind where it be the prime minister or the guy selling milk on the streets.
@HasBeen ... Yes, you can be corrupt to the core but you just have to be "liberal" and a PPP jiyala and you can get away with it. Happens only in this land of the pure.
PPP jiyalas seriously need to have their heads examined!!!
@Shahbaz Shah
corruption is just a bi-product of a liberal enlightened democratic pakista. It is either that or a military/mullah led dictatorship. You chose.
@Expatriate
I believe Ms. Bhutto the last beacon of democracy in South Asia did recommend making commision i.e. kick backs in government projects legal to a certain percentage during her 2nd stint. Alas! how we miss the great visionary
Wonderful. Way to go, feel proud to be a Pakistani today.
nothing ever proved all allegations ,,,, let the courts issue verdict and then dishonour your prime minister
What a poor journalism by Express Tribune. Did anyone checked that NAB has de-freezed accounts or not?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Jiyeh Bhutto! Jiyeh Zardari! Pakistan ka Allah hee hafiz.
Fasi Bokhari was hand picked to head NAB for a reason., and he is reputed to be one of the better ones.
What a shame.
Business as usual.
Bribe,kickback and other corruption involving assets(cash and real estate) have become norm in developing countries in the main,more so in Pakistan.Ironically actors involved never got punished since those making investigation/pleading case in the court came from the same stock of people.Nothing will happen in this case also. The time has now come that sitting parliament must quickly pass a bill legalising bribe/kickback and other form of corruption perhaps with retrospective effort.This will safe national money and time.
PPP zinda baad
Mr.aY2k its even more sad to see that poeple ACTUALLY vote for them .. My reference is to the voting in multan where the son of ex prime minister won again.. its a shame to see the illiteracy rate of our country being so high
We need some good honest people to run this country, there is too much potential. Corruption has crippled Pakistan.
Corruption of Rs.2000b/annually is not big issue????????@HasBeen:
PPP is a democratically elected, progressive liberal party. Anyone criticising them is either a rightwing extremist or product of dictatorship (or both). We need to stand behind the prime minister, president and the entire legitimately elected parliament to save Pakistan. Corruption is not a big issue, Liberal/Progressive credentials are.
If any one either he is the prime minister of pakistan or president every body should be treated the same..
Makes my blood boil.
