ISLAMABAD:

Stressing the timely promotion of government officers, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has directed the secretary establishment to ensure that appointments, transfers and postings of government servants are made based on merit and the principle of “right man for right job” be strictly implemented.

The directives were issued by the prime minister to the secretary establishment, Taimur Azmat Osman, during a meeting on Thursday.

The premier also directed the Establishment Division to ensure proper career planning of officers.

Prime Minister Ashraf said that the timely promotion of officers is critical to maintain the morale of bureaucracy, motivate them and improve their efficiency. In this regard, he directed the Establishment Division to ensure that promotions of deserving officers in all grades are held on time.

He ordered all administrative and legal requirements to be fulfilled so that promotion cases were processed expeditiously. He also expressed hope that government servants, especially those associated with public dealing and in the delivery chain, would utilise their experience and capabilities to address the grievances of the people.

According to sources, the prime minister also took account of his earlier directives to devise a policy for the appointment of capable, honest and senior law enforcement agency officials in Balochistan to improve the law and order situation in the province and to bring it at par with other provinces. He sought a detailed report from the secretary regarding the current status of implementation on these directives.

“The restoration of law and order and peace in Balochistan is one of the top priorities of my government and to fulfill my commitments, I’ll go beyond my limits,” said the premier.

Ashraf added that the federal government will fully assist the provincial government in overcoming all crises whether they are related to law and order or to financial issues. He said that the announcements made by him or any PPP prime minister will be fulfilled and the Establishment Division has been ordered to strictly implement the directions, specifically those regarding Balochistan.

Ashraf revisited the policy of the transfer of PAS/DMG/PSP officers to Balochistan last week and accorded approval to a new policy.

A source added that the prime minister also directed the secretary to discourage phone calls related to the prime minister or with any of his family members, adding that such calls should not be entertained at any cost.
