A patient tested positive for the dengue virus at Mayo Hospital while two others are suspected of having contracted the virus.
The patient who tested positive was identified as Muhammad Zahid. His platelet count had dropped to 1,000, a doctor treating the patient told The Express Tribune. “The patient came with bleeding and fluid in his lungs,” the doctor said. The doctors believe that Zahid has contracted dengue for the second time because they suspect he is suffering from dengue hemorrhagic fever. Zahid told doctors that he didn’t contract dengue last year. “He might have contracted dengue before but not realised it,” the doctor said.
Two other patients, Zubair from Lahore and Safia from Sialkot, are suspected of suffering from dengue fever. Both of them are being treated at Mayo Hospital.
Salman Rafique, special assistant to the chief minister on health, said the government had made all arrangements necessary to curb and control dengue this year.
