LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former pace bowler Muhammad Akram as team’s bowling coach, pakpassion.net reported on Sunday.
"After much debate and discussions, the PCB has chosen Akram as the Pakistan bowling coach. The PCB chose Akram because he has a good rapport with the current group of Pakistani cricketers; they know him and he has experience of Pakistan’s domestic cricket and of county cricket," a source close to the PCB told the cricket website.
The source further added that the new bowling coach will not just train the national team bowlers but will be expected to work with “the bowlers at the National Cricket Academy as well as at grass roots level with emphasis on grooming and preparing the next generation of fast bowlers for Pakistan."
Akram was backed by Rashid Latif and Azhar Mahmood who felt that “he was the right man for the job given his experience of Pakistan cricket, English County cricket and his ability to interact with the current group of international players.”
Earlier, Shoaib Akhtar had offered to take on the vacant bowling coach’s role with the national squad but the PCB stated that the former pacer was not eligible due to lack of qualifications as a ‘professional coach’.
Pakistan is without a bowling coach since former fast-bowler Aqib Javed resigned from the post to take up UAE’s head coach position after the series against England earlier this year.

Is this the same M. Akram who couldn't even maintain his own position in national team ? I thought we had far more capable retired bowlers than this guy.

No offence to Rashid Latif but our stubborn national cricketers who didn't respect Waqar, mediocre bowler Akram will make no difference.
