“The secretary general expresses his outrage over such deliberate attacks on people due to their religious beliefs in Pakistan,” said a statement released by UN spokesman Martin Nesirky which strongly condemned the attack.
Gunmen dragged the Shiite travellers off a bus in the northwestern district of Mansehra and killed them at point blank range, officials said. It was the third attack of its kind in six months.

@Khalid Pathan: What else is expected when bad words are uttered for those personalities who are held very high for all muslims ?
The CJ should take suo moto action against the perpetrators of the Mansehra tragedy, even if the Supreme Court is accused of “persecuting” the present Government, as might very well turn out to be another failure of Government to protect its citizens effectively.
Glad that Ban Ki Moon has taken notice as our own leaders fail to do so, and have pretty much given up on the CJ believing he may have some biased religious sectarian leanings himself.
How many of us have forgotten that Ban Ki Moon was the one who went to bat for us, calling an emergency meeting, when we were totally flooded, sunk and isolated, to get international help and donations, when the international community were reluctant and doing little.
Those who are claiming Ban Ki Moon hasn't taken notice elsewhere, are clueless, being ignorant and resentful, possibly deflecting and downplaying the crisis of anti-Shia attacks because it embarrasses Pak, as it should. He's very much in the thick of world affairs, including Syria and Burma.
is it a conspiracy? No. But sure it is a concerted action against Pakistan by the rest of the world, including many other muslim countries. If you see all recent news on Pakistan, it surely appears that many countries are united against Pakistan. Even China has slowly moved into this group after the killings of Chinese engineers and a visiting Chinese woman in Pakistan. China has also seen terror activities spreading in its region and they have now realized that all terror groups in Pakistan have to be taken out. As another ET reader from Pakistan has commented elsewhere, there could very well be a Hizbollah group within Pakistan in the future. Pakistan is really running out of time and options. Years of hatred preached and practiced on everyone has brought Pakistan to this stage.
@alicia, you got correct when you say: because we tell our children that shia’s are infidels and worst human beings and bring them up to treat shia’s like awfully. In addition, years of hate teachings at schools are also responsible. Most in Pakistan are very confused as to what they should believe.
For those who want the matter to be chewed like a gum want to talk about Rohingya instead... they surely open a can of worms. Because when you talk about Burma... you say "Budhist killed Muslims" or in Gujrat "Hindu killed Muslims"...which means you recognize the religious creed of the killer and the killed. Would anyone care to tell me what is the religious creed in this Mansehra case? is it Shia killed by Sunnis?? because apparently taliban and these people call themselves Ahl e Sunnah creed! I am sure this is not the case, so its better not to talk about Burma or Guantanamo bay. I really think all Sunni population should express open disgust for these killers because they are attempting to divide the nation wearing the fake sunni cap. In the bigger picture, Obama said in his innaugration speech speech that he wants to destablize PK...this is done by making the people hate the army (which has been partially accomplished) and by creating sectarian divide (which these thugs are doing the dirty job on).
UN has condemned the Shia killing but there is no condemnation from Mullahs(who tirelessly preach the Islam as the religion of peace)) and none political parties irrespective of their inclination , whether right wing, or others. It is pathetic that there is no protest on the streets against this barbaric act from any group, NGO (working for humanity). No wonder Taliban is liked by a major part of the society which includes law enforcement agencies, public servants educationists alike.when you do not condemn it indicates your silent support to such crimes or probably it is not a crime at all but a pious act. This mindset keeps the killers roam Scot free.
very layman question:- -Are these killer superhuman? who do not get detected by any security agencies, is not confronted by any security force, is not banend by government and is not punished by the court when arrested, are given ways to keep operating by simply changing the group name... Who/how powerfull really are these massiahs of death?
@antanu g: when you r joining pakistan.....................
@antanu g: " .... and maintain a mentality of slavery towards everything western/ US just because they have now become enemy of our disturbed neighbour. .... "
You appear to be in the mould of your CM - Mamata Di - who is quite happy to facilitate Muslim immigration from Bangladesh in the name of "ma-mati-manush".
Justice is half-blind in Pakistan....proved!!
@Bilal: CJ criticism is justified, nobody is not blaming the govt and law enforcement as well, but courts have done nothing when proven killers were presented. Law enforcement (police, rangers army)rise to the occasion sometimes atleast but courts have never convicted a single person. And it is not as simple as to just say that case was not prepared properly, it is impossible that no case was strong enough for them to convict and punish the killers. And since they are lecturing on everything why don't they ask about presecution? why don't they ask on why the witnesses are scared or got murdered? The fact is that they are only doing the selective activism, only targeting your political rivals and where there no risk to themselves.
Really disturbing to see the indifference towards Shia killing in the comments here. People still care more for Burma and are not at all disturbed by what is happening in Pakistan. What has Burma done to have such a special place in the heart of Pakistanis and what is the fault of innocent Pakistanis dying everyday that their our countrymen don't care for them? Why?!
Regards A very disturbed Pakistani
@Mohammad: And you did not say a word about our Shia brothers!!! Do you care about your brothers first or people elsewhere in the world???
@Kaleem: maybe you need to come down from your fantasy world and see ground realities in your home, too, if he is on moon then you are in HELL.
@Kabeer Hussain: Bhai stop worrying about Burma and elsewhere, fire is burning in your house, help your family first instead of worrying about what's happening elsewhere. Someone has taken notice, this should be appreciated but I don't know what's wrong with people like you who always want to deny everything with their "it's happening elsewhere too so why point fingers at us" attitude, it's good that it wasn't one of yours otherwise you probably won't be as insensitive and indifferent. P.S Burma is not our concern.
@Ijaz haqani: ha ha! a pure Indian comment ! ET is run / funded by our dearie neighbors !
Ban ki moon did say against Burma crisis, google and find out. The people who are saying he did not speak up for Burma and quick to jump on Pakistan are just trying to divert attention from the shia genocide haunting face of Pakistan.Shame on you guys.
@antanu g:
i live far away from kolkata, in lucknow.
you can also come to aliganj in lucknow, and have discussion with me to the content of your heart... and also, anyone from bangladesh living in my country is not an indian...they are just illegal migrants, eating up my contry's resources, at the cost of my country's poor..so, you have no right to call yourself indian, when you voluntarily opted for a country based on religion.
and, regarding guts, you are a man who could not live for a difficult day in his country to help his countrymen, and so should not talk about guts of other.
however, we can establish communication atleast by email id: m.manish22@yahoo.com...
feel free to disturb anytime....
@Kabeer Hussain: "he should also be “appalled” by the situation in Burma, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Iraq etc"
Can you also add Tibetan buddhist and Uighur muslims? Oh, I see, that would implicate your higher than mountain friend.......!
If something had happened from shia's to Pakistani sunni's then all these people would forget all about Burma and Afghanistan and bash shia's. Now when some one is telling them to do some house cleaning to in ko burma ka gham khai ja raha hai.
What about the 60 families who lost their fathers brothers yesterday because our nation and our government does not protect them; because we tell our children that shia's are infidels and worst human beings and bring them up to treat shia's like awfully. Buddhists must be responsible for killings in Burma but over here we are responsible me you and everyone around us. We failed this minority muslim group.
@Kabeer Hussain: Shame on you for undermining the gravity of the situation.
Finally the world has woken up, Pakistan's security and judicial apparatus is either in the state of perpetual denial or in deep sleep. We have one heck of a hypocrite who takes notices of samosas but human blood bath is invisible to him. His own fanatic beliefs have blinded him.
The Government is provoking anti Shia killings by dealing with the TTP as a sectarian outfit.
wow he has taken notice so quick bt he kept on sleeping wen thngs went bad in burma and india....nice 2 c he is so concerned
@Abdullah: You were there to count the dead??? Salman is stating a source!!
Shias have to pray and stay alert all the time. We cannot trust Pakistani government to help us as they get cash and cheap oil from Saudi to turn blind eye from these incidents. Our only hope is Allah and we would like Iran, India and other friends to help us.
It's not just Taliban but the mindset of Pakistani society as whole which is causing the deaths of Shia. According to recent poll , every second Pakistani considers Shia as non-Muslim. Which is just shocking !
@Abdullah. Pakistani verbal data with faking photos don't count with Rohingya genocide. Those 70-100 number of deaths is authentic data provided by amnesty international.
UN Leader dnt have Appalled on Burma Muslim killling ......
@unbeliever: Mr...I am more Indian than you...and need not to prove my credentials. However if you want a debate on any issue, come down to statesman building, kolkata. take my address and talk to me if you have the guts. but you dont have any otherwise you would not post your comment under aliases and maintain a mentality of slavery towards everything western/ US just because they have now become enemy of our disturbed neighbour. And yes I hate RSS ideology, I hate US policies as much as I hate Talibani monsters..but more than that I HATE DOUBLE STANDARDS OF THE SO CALLED DEMOCRATIC AND SUPERPOWERS which has given birth to Talibans and other terror outfits and provide them with justification for what they are doing.
@It Is (still) Economy Stupid: No not yet. But you cant fault us for not trying hard enough..
He didn't say any word about Burmi Muslims.... does UN think the Muslims are retarted that do not understand their Double Standards.
UN Chief speaks for the global community.
Are we there (stone age) yet?
Why Chief Justice of Pakistan is being blamed for these killings on religious grounds! Blame should be squarely on security agencies and their assets and then on law enforcement agencies.
Sir, it wasn't the third attack in the last six months. People in different parts of Pakistan, especially in Quetta and Karachi are being shot dead at point blank almost every other day. Parachanar, a district in Kurram Agency with the population of around 500,000 has been under a blockade for over five years for religious reasons only!
When a diplomat speaks, not only words but when and why they speak is also a message.
UNSG speaking on this killing - means this is about KASHMIR. Pakistani side of if (Azad or Occupied - I will nto go in semantics). He is reminding that this killing is in a "Disputed" land as per UN.
Pakistan raising Kashmir issue everytime on UN is coming back to haunt it!
@fahad .. They are burmese muslims. WHy are we people killing our own Muslim brothers ?
Shia's are a fair game for terrorists Talibans. Courtesy of Zia-ul-Haq who for the first time send jihadi's against Shia's, to earn a place for himself in Paradise.
@Salman mirza: 100 Rohingya ? Don't know with what number the actual number was divided. Thousands of Rohingya have been killed.
Any words for killing of innocent Muslims in Burma ?
so do some thing about it.This killing has to stop.
Those who are talking about Burma and Kashmir should talk about Baloch genocide in Balochistan. According to amnesty international 100 Rohingya got killed but in Balochistan around 400 mutilated dead bodies of Baloch People were found. Which were allegedly kidnapped by security agencies. We Pakistani talk cry on Burma but never dared to talk on balochi plight because it hits our jingoistic ultranationalism alot.
I say we need our brave army to run the country just one more time, what say you my fellow dalwalas?
Those advising UN Gen Sec to look in to attrocities of other countries should first, "APNAY GREBAN MEIN JHAKEIN" Clean your house first then look to neighbours. Height of brutality is the killing of Muslims by Muslims belonging to same country. I think it is high time UNO to become very strict with Pakistan to get the surety of human rights for each Pakistani.
@antanu g:
our RSS....well with pakistan in your heart...you better say your RSS... NAME..... what exactly you mean by that....you also use a pseudonym.....or is it so shocking to you, that a muslim can't think differently, from the mob?
UN leader is appalled, but neither the President nor the Prime MInister are. At least seems like that. Life will continue like this. We all need to speak out, we were all together in school i.e. sia sunnis, catholic, hindus etc. was there any problem then. There is no problem now also,if few dozen are destined to kill people with certain sect then we should at least speak out and talk about it. Before people are appalled and get some kind od idea that we are Syria in the making. Please Wake up. And those who have written on this post, please remember that the only problem with the country is that the political system has decayed. Before it starts eating the social structure lets talk about it unlike our parents. Hope I make sense, please tell me if i don't
Suo Moto my Lord?
Ban Ki-Moon must come down from moon and see ground realities on earth. Burma, Syria, Palestine and Kashmir need his attention too.
Whatever happened was definitely wrong but why not concerned about the sectarian violence in Burmar and also Assam India??
I really do not have words to express my anguish and anger what these animals did to our fellow citizens. I have not an iota of doubt that these beast are gangs of foreign mercenaries and their local stooges. But what rages me even more is the total complacency of our government and law enforcement agencies including our military intelligence agencies. Our enemies are doing what they ought to do. What our protectors are doing? Or even if they really do exist?
@Kabeer Hussain
its time we Pakistanis stop worrying about Burma, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Iraq and condemn these brutal attacks in Pakistan, help state and security agencies nab and punish them and prevent our youngsters joining these sectarian murderers
like CJ taking suo moto notice of sectarian violence would end it.. I am pretty sure that keeping law and order including checking and keeping its citizens safe is responsibility of the Government. How come people would criticize judiciary for yet another govt failure..
isn't it ' barbarc'/ killing like in 'medivial ages' - wonder of wonders "mullahs have given" no 'fatwa' - is it really an 'islamic state'?
A man US is seeing the flow of blood in Pakistan but what about those who are in the country? Shame on silent supporters of Shia genocide in military, judiciary and political parties..!
@Kabeer Hussain: It is people like you who give tacit justification for non action against the perpetrators of heinous crimes against humanity by distracting the conversation to other atrocities hence lessening the impact of current topic.
KAGAHAN , BABUSAR TOP and the surrounding areas have always been very peaceful till yesterday and suddenly the BEASTS (TALIBAN) have started the sectarian problem here too.PAKISTAN MUST GET RID OF THEM!!!!
since mister ban ki moon has suddenly awoken today, he should also be "appalled" by the situation in Burma, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Not saying what happened in Mansehra should not be condemned. But coming from ban ki moon, it just doesn't have the weight it should.
Govt anti bodies are attacking military, police, navy, and those they considered infidels. No one has the power or will to stop them.
CJ sahib UN Secretary General is taking notice but your sou motos are limited to samosas and two bottles of liquir.
"Mar jai gee makhlooq to insaaf kara gey".
