Equitable power cuts: CCI body to submit proposals on August 31

The committee will take input from provinces and technical experts.

The committee constituted by the Council of Common Interests (CCI) on the equitable distribution of electricity will submit its recommendations to the council on August 31, a press release said on Thursday.


A meeting of CCI’s Committee on Equitable Distribution of Electricity chaired by Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar was held on Thursday.

Mukhtar in his opening remarks said that the committee would finalise its recommendations as per the suggestions given by provinces and reports of technical experts, the statement said.

He said that equitable load-shedding was being ensured in all the provinces, however, reservations held by the provinces in this regard would be resolved. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to end the energy crisis on a priority basis.

Later, the provincial representatives gave presentations on their respective energy requirements, power outages, receivables and payables and update of dues cleared by them. They also submitted their suggestions for equitable distribution of electricity.

The meeting was attended by secretary water and power, chief secretaries of all the four provinces, Gilgit Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, managing director of National Transmission and Distribution Company and senior officials of provincial power departments and the water and power ministry, it said.
