Fashion Police: Sridevi

Iconic star Sridevi obviously needs a crash course in fashion for the over-40.

The Charge Sheet:

Washed out!

Iconic star Sridevi, who made fans swoon back in the 80s with her schoolgirl charm, may be in great shape, but obviously needs a crash course in fashion for the over-40. She attended the launch of a theatrical trailer for her comeback film English Vinglish in Mumbai looking like a wannabe teenager. While she is bang on trend with the side fishtail, her washed out colour-combination makes her look like an ambassador for a dry cleaning company!

Make-up

The only thing that works in Sridevi’s favour is the clean make-up. The actor has kept her look au naturale with fresh peach cheeks and a barely-there glossy lip colour. Her light brown peepers have been outlined with a soft brown pencil, smudged around the corners to give a doe-eyed lass effect with the eyelids smeared with a very light pink eye shadow. The make-up makes her look 10 years younger.

Outfit

Sridevi thought she was playing safe when she pulled this Gucci pants and shirt combo out of her closet — but it just has not worked for her. Not only do the pants look a tad bit large on her waist, she totally forgot to add in a skinny belt that could have saved her look. All in all, for someone as stunning as her, the outfit is too wannabe-girlish and forgettable.

Accessories

The sheer lack of oomph in this ensemble begs our attention. The silver Gucci shoulder on bag and the statement necklace is right on trend but what on earth are they doing with this white and lilac outfit?

Shoes

Oh, women of subcontinent do not — under any circumstance — wear these strappy, toe-exposing heels with crisply-tailored pants. Please know that pumps help bring out that chic in western attire. If you are opting for a sleek, sophisticated look, then stick to the basic rules of smart dressing and refrain from listening to the desi aunty within.  These strappy heels would’ve brought the house down if she were wearing a sari or shalwar kameez. But they look a bit out of place with this ensemble which could have been livened up with neon pumps or chunky peep-toes.

Bail out:

Eva Longoria

Even though we are not big fans of her strappy heels, Eva Longoria does a better job at pulling off the white shirt and pastel pants combination. This ensemble works because firstly, colour blocking is in vogue and Eva’s white shirt is in sharp contrast to her peach pants. Secondly, because Eva’s big brown arm candy is bringing in the right amount of pop to the ensemble.

Princess Letizia

Here is someone who just hit 40 but still knows how to look hot without looking like she is trying too hard to look like a teenage pop sensation (Sridevi, take note). Princess Letizia is sporting and totally rocking these camel coloured high-waisted pants with a white shirt and a gold chain belt. She made a wise choice of opting for these shoes because they show just the right amount of her toes.

Kate Moss

Fashion’s favourite child Kate Moss rocks these pastel peach pants by pairing them with a blackest of black collar shirt, black clutch and black pumps. She wisely wore a dark brown belt, which is not only breaking black’s domination in her ensemble but is also giving a tinge of colour to the overall look without clashing with peach or black. Super Kate does it again!
