Aiding transparency: UN-Habitat to computerise land records

The project aims to digitise old land manuals and transfer them into computer databases

UN-Habitat, the United Nations Agency for Human Settlements, has launched an extensive project to computerise and digitise land records with the support of the provincial government, according to a press release. The project aims to digitise old land manuals and transfer them into computer databases, giving them a longer, sustainable life. Using the latest technology in GIS, satellite images will replace traditional cadastral maps (latha in local language), which were previously used by Patwaries for the allocation of land and titles to potential owners.
