Cracking down on crime: Ban imposed on sale of illegal SIMs

PTA has been directed to take possible measures be taken for the verifications of SIMs from subscribers.

PESHAWAR: The Home and Tribal Affairs Department imposed a ban on the sale of all illegal Subscriber Identity Modules (SIM) on Sunday. To this effect, the department asked the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and divisional commissioners in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to direct the district coordination officer to impose Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure for a period of two months. The step has been taken by the home department to keep a closer check on criminal activities where SIMs are frequently being used as tools. The PTA has been directed to take possible measures be taken for the verifications of SIMs from subscribers.
