The second additional district and sessions judge, Munawwar Sultana, acquitted a robbery suspect as the complainant didn’t show up in the court. Abdul Ghafoor was booked under sections 395, 397 and 337-H of the penal code.
The complainant, Saeedur Rahman, stated in the FIR (275/2007) lodged at Shah Latif Town police station that a man Hasan Junejo and around 15 other men had thrashed him and his brothers over a dispute and snatched their mobile phones. The police later arrested Ghafoor, Farooq, Ali and Saleem, all activists of a nationalist party, who admitted that they were following party orders and would not allow any Hazarwal to build a house in Abdullah Goth.
The other three suspects had already been acquitted in the case, while Junejo and Ali Gul Hasan were declared absconders.
On Saturday, the judge acquitted Ghafoor under section 265-K (power of the court to acquit accused at any stage) when his lawyer moved an acquittal application over the complainant’s absence.
