Encroaching rivalry: Terrorist groups clash leaves one dead

In another incident, a man was gunned down by unidentified assailants.

Two persons were killed, including a member of the Zainuddin Group, and another injured in separate incidents on Saturday.


An official of the Cantt Police Station DI Khan told The Express Tribune that Abdur Rehman Mehsud and Hidayatullah were going to Tusifabad on a motorcycle when unknown armed persons opened fire on them. Rehman was instantly killed while Hidayatullah was taken District Headquarters Hospital where his condition was declared stable.

Hidayatullah lodged an FIR at the police station, saying that Rehman was a member of the Zainuddin Group and assailants who killed him were from the Baitullah Mehsud chapter of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

After killing of former head of the Zainuddin Group Abdullah Mehsud, a former Guantanamo Bay prisoner also involved in the kidnapping of Chinese engineers, Zainuddin Mehsud succeeded the group as commander. However, Zainuddin was also later killed. At present this group has no active existence.

In another incident, unidentified armed men killed a 34-year-old man in Ruree Khel, in the jurisdiction of Yarak Police Station, an official told The Express Tribune.

According to the official, unknown persons opened fire on Fazlur Rehman, injuring him badly. He was taken to District Headquarters Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A relative of the deceased, Ahmad Din, lodged an FIR in the police station against unknown persons.
