Korangi tanneries: KMC to look into disposal of waste

KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation commissioner, Matanat Ali Khan, said that a comprehensive survey will be conducted to arrange means of scientific disposal of chemical waste which is discharged from the Korangi Tannery industrial area. Talking to the Pakistan Tannery Association delegation, he said that the chemical waste discharged from tannery factories contained poisonous chemicals and was buried at landfill site for which solid waste management was necessary. Pakistan Tanneries Association President Khursheed Ahmed Khan said the tannery industry problems should be prioritised since thousands of people were associated with the leather processing industry and considerable amount is paid as tax to the government.
