Contempt law: Government files review petition against SC's decision
The petition was filed through federation's counsel, Abdul Shakoor Paracha.
On August 3, a five-member bench, led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, declared COCA null and void– a clear declaration that the court has the right to hold anyone in contempt, regardless of their office.
In response to the decision, President Asif Ali Zardari had met with his legal experts to discuss options to save his second prime minster from being dismissed, as there is no legal immunity for him in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) implementation case.
Zardari had also met with Law Minister Farooq H Naek and had held a detailed discussion with him.
The government has already seen one of its premiers sent packing on contempt charges after he refused to follow court orders regarding writing a letter to Swiss authorities – and a similar fate hangs over Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, who has also thus far demurred from writing the letter to the Swiss authorities.

@ cramalised onion I AM NOT A PPP supporter but respect it's jiyalas who have given sacrifices for democracy and not cut deals by signing pardon papers and running away Nor do I support Imran khans tantrums , poor integrity and poor character . Checks and balances should apply to the courts more than others We have case of Arslan who is openly defying law with the help of courts Checks and balances for judges who have acquired plots of land for nothing see the obvious . Govt need time as desired by Mr. Zardari till approximately September 2012. When claim for Money laundering will time barred according to law of Switzerland. Hence Govt using delay tactics in this case including Rehman baba selected next PM for given tough time to judiciary. WELL DONE JUDICIARY WE ARE WITH YOU AND REMAINS WITH LAW.

Looking at the track record of the govt. in accepting the court judgments, do you think the govt. will respect the judgement of the ICJ if its not favourable?
This review petition seems like a re-hearing In India (eg VODAFONE Case) the Indian Supreme Court dismissed the Review the same date of hearing by a brief order stating there is No Merit

Are sixty million in Swiss banks more than letting the thousands of appeals getting adjourned all over Pakistan due to the CJ's incessant need to play politics?

Federal Government should file the case in international court of justice. From our courts they will get the same reply.

Delaying tactics to cover bad governance.
