Pillion riding to be banned in Karachi from August 8 to 11
Additionally, the government has also banned pillion riding in Hyderabad from Ramazan 20 to Ramazan 22 (August 9 to August 11).
A ban has also been imposed on carrying weapons in public.
Police in Lahore have also tightened their security plan for the Shia procession marking the martyrdom.

We will still be banning pillion riding in 2050. So we should stop showing this as news. When foreign newspapers call Pakistan a failed state we should not be hurt.
I left karachi back in 95 - saddens me to see in my last visit just how bad things have gotten here. The whole city is one giant mess - garbage everywhere - murders, robberies, outright thefts, VIP blockades, Ganja and Hashish epidemic on pavements and under flyovers , afghani immigrant explosion, extortions, target killings, massive power outages, water crises, PPP vs MQM vs AHP battle grounds, slums, bombs, my god.
The whole city has turned to one giant cesspool and our leaders are doing naught. I've had the opportunity to travel to many parts of the world - and it shames me to say even cities like Colombo are now world class in comparison.
Even Mumbai has become a world class metro - back in the 90s it was a dump - but slums are being rehabilitated massively, they're constructing world class towers and a huge metro - and Mumbai has never seen a power cut since Independence!!
Why do WE have face this? whats the difference between us karachiites and the Mumbais?
Unfortunate that the state fails to crackdown on hardline Wahhabi/Salafi/Deoband/Sunni extremism and have to resort to such short-term half-measures to avoid anti-Shia sectarian attacks, which has become the norm.

A ban on 'carrying weapons in public'! Shouldn't that be in-effect 24/7? Moreover, possessing weapons, cut the 'public' crap.

this city is becoming a junk place by every day. Its ranked as one of the most populous yet poorest city in the world. Shameful.
Banning pillion riding won't help when Sindh Police is the most ineffective police force in the World.
Government providing opportunity to law enforcing agencies (read Karachi Police) to earn "Eidi" from innocent people.
