Two Arrested: Police seize 240kg of hashish

Law mandates punishment of at least life in prison or death sentence for possession of more than 10 kilograms of drugs

Islampura police claimed to have arrested two drug dealers and seized more than 240 kilograms of hashish, valued at Rs15 million, from them.

Police officials said that they had gone to raid Hanif Masih’s residence in Akram Park as they had learnt that a proclaimed offender named Shakeel was hiding there. When they arrived there Shakeel had fled, but they found 147 kilos of hashish at Masih’s house. On information provided by Masih, they later searched Abdullah Khan’s residence, also in Akram Park, and found 93 kilos of hashish stashed in a rickshaw.

A case was registered under Section 9c of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, which mandates a punishment of at least life in prison or the death sentence for possession of more than 10 kilograms of drugs, and under Section 216 (harbouring a fugitive) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
