KARACHI: Two supporters of the Arshad Pappu group were gunned down in their house in Jahanabad on Monday in what police believe to be part of a series of tit-for-tat killings in the city.

Talking to The Express Tribune, District West Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Akram Naeem said that the killings took place in reaction to the murder of Jauhar Magsi who was gunned down on Saturday in Lashari Mohalla.

The deceased was a member of the Magsi group, settled in the Magsi Mohalla of Jahanabad.

Indiscriminate firing erupted in the area, after the incident and shops were shut down. Law enforcement officials, including Rangers, had arrived at the scene.

Mehboob Lashari, a member of the Lashari group which reportedly supports Arshad Pappu, was nominated in the case.

DIG Naeem said that around 25 to 30 men arrived at Magsi’s home, posing as mourners, after which at least seven men went to Lashari’s house, but when they couldn’t find him, they killed his 35-year-old brother, Liaquat Ali Lashari, and 55-year-old uncle, Ali Ahmed.

The assailants fled the scene before the police arrived.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Civil Hospital, where friends and family protested against the killings.

An FIR has been registered on the complaint of Ahmed’s son, Rashid Ali, against unidentified persons. DIG Naeem said that the police were planning to conduct an operation, tonight.
