Spending on flood aid (II)

LOS ANGELES: With respect to the government’s proposal to set up a commission to supervise flood aid, may I point out that the mechanism itself does not seem transparent, given that the bodies which will nominate the individuals of “impeccable character” are themselves not free of corruption.

Even their initial, and subsequent, responses to the calamity seemed ineffective and seemed to concentrate more on projecting visits to affected areas by the political leadership. Furthermore, the council will have to depend on the available infrastructure to perform their functions and this will surely hamper it.
