ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari said on Saturday that Iran and Pakistan could play an important part in establishing peace and stability in the region. He expressed this during his meeting with Iranian Speaker Dr Ali Larijani. Referring to the parliamentary relations between Pakistan and Iran, Bokhari said, “We want to enhance these ties in all areas”. He emphasised the need for increasing the volume of trade between the two counties, saying that given the potential of the two, the present level of $1.3 billion trade was insufficient. Pointing out the significance of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, the Senate chairman expressed hope that it would be completed on time to help Pakistan overcome its energy shortage.
